Python Coding & Scripting Course Outline
Course Curriculum
8 modules · Each module includes instructional content, a hands-on lab, and a quiz.
Variables, data types, operators, and how Python executes code. Get comfortable with the Python REPL and write your first useful scripts. Understand why Python is the scripting language of choice in IT and DevOps.
If statements, loops, and logical operators. Learn to write scripts that make decisions and repeat actions — the foundation of every automation you will ever write.
Write reusable functions, understand scope, and import from the standard library. Learn how to structure scripts as clean, maintainable code rather than a pile of commands.
Read, write, and process text files and CSVs. Traverse directories, rename files, and automate file management tasks that would otherwise take hours to do by hand.
Make HTTP requests, consume REST APIs, and parse JSON responses. Automate interactions with cloud providers, monitoring tools, ticketing systems, and any service that exposes an API.
Use regex, string methods, and file I/O to parse system logs, extract information, and generate reports. A skill used constantly in security, operations, and systems administration.
Use Python's os, subprocess, and shutil modules to interact with the operating system, run shell commands, manage processes, and build scripts that integrate with existing infrastructure.
Write robust scripts with proper exception handling. Understand basic testing with pytest, package scripts for reuse, and follow the practices that separate professional automation from fragile one-liners.
