Cloud Computing Course Outline
Course Curriculum
8 modules · Each module includes instructional content, a hands-on lab, and a quiz.
What cloud computing actually is, the difference between public, private, and hybrid clouds, and the IaaS/PaaS/SaaS service models. Understand the shared responsibility model and what it means for security.
Provision and configure VMs in the cloud. Understand instance types, images, autoscaling groups, and load balancers. Learn how cloud compute differs from on-premise servers — and why it matters.
Object storage (S3/Blob), block storage, and file storage explained. Understand durability, availability, storage tiers, and lifecycle policies. Configure buckets, permissions, and versioning hands-on.
Build virtual networks in the cloud — subnets, route tables, internet gateways, NAT, and security groups. Understand how cloud networking maps to traditional concepts and where it diverges.
Control who can do what in the cloud. Configure users, groups, roles, and policies. Understand the principle of least privilege applied to cloud resources, and avoid the common misconfigurations that cause breaches.
Beyond VMs — explore managed databases, queues, caches, and serverless functions. Understand when to use managed services versus self-managed infrastructure and the trade-offs involved.
Use cloud-native monitoring and logging tools to observe infrastructure health. Set up alerts, dashboards, and cost budgets. Understand the billing model and how to avoid surprise cloud bills.
Apply the Well-Architected Framework to cloud deployments. Understand defence-in-depth in the cloud, encryption at rest and in transit, and the architectural patterns used by production cloud environments.
